Champoluc – Crest

Mount Crest is easy to do on foot, but become an interesting challenge if you’re riding your loyal MTB.

First of all, two words regarding the famous “Pistone”, the ski track which starts from Crest and arrive at Champoluc’s cableway terminal. It’s already stressing during hot days on foot, image to do it all by bike. It’s a fascitating and short descent, if you want, but I have to recommend to use care.

The real itinerary to Crest is another, if you want to avoid problems. You’ll have to go to St.Jacques and there, before entering in the major square, you’ll turn right to climb on the hard slope which takes to Refuge Casale Monferrato, at 1675 meters of altitude.

From there you reach Soussun, located at 1976 meters; when you are there, you have done it. In facts, you simply have to take path 13B, a normal muletrack in good condition, praticly flat. And, when you are at Crest, how will you resist at the temptation to try “Pistone”?
