Bivouac “City of Mariano Comense”

Located at 2981 meters of altitude, this structure has been inaugurated in 1974 and offers 9 bed places. The Bivouac is located in Rollin’s basin, under Ventina’s Glacier. It offers a repair in case of poor weather, or a good support point for new walks: from there you can reach Upper Cime Bianche Pass (2982 meters), Rock of  Verra (3129 meters), Rollin’s Peak (3296 meters) and, of course, Rollin’s Hump (3902 meters). Finally, it’s important to remember that, nearby, there are several little lakes; the bigger one is, precisely, Tzère Lake. It’s an interesting trek, especially if you wonder to reach Cime Bianche or if you want to know Ayas’ borders. I have to say it’s a pretty long run, which in the final part takes to climb the big rocky glacis on which the Bivouac stands. That’s because, even though it doesn’t ask for alpinistic skills, this run is just for excursionists fit and skilled.

However, here the chronicle of our trek, happened Saturday 21st August 2004. We left Frachey at 7.50 going towards St. Jacques, were we arrived at 8.05. We left at 8.19, and we reached Fiery at half past eight; from there starts the path wich will take us to the Bivouac, the 6C. Unfortunatelym the lower part of this path seems to be pretty unused nowadays, maybe because most of the trekkers prefers to use the TMR to Cime Bianche and, then, climb rightwards. So, how will we find this path? Well, I recommend you to print these instruction and you’ll save about 30 mins, the time we wasted playing the treasure hunters with the 6C. Once arrived in Fiery, the signals will take you leftwards, in the beautiful wood behind the old hotel where Guido Gozzano lived. Then, the signals seems to indicate only the TMR, but here what you have to do.

Just after the bridge across Tzère torrent, you have to go right, crossing a wild and wet meadow, until you reach a desterted “malga”, which is a shepherd’s hut. It’s Vase resort, where we arrive at 9.00 AM. The path, behind the malga, is still perceptible, and leads us to another deserted hut, at 9.10: we’re in Chucoz resort, about 2004 meters of altitude.
