Palon de Resy

With its 2676 meters, the Palon represents an excellent glacier’s observation point, conjugating the relative facility of the walk with the panorama’s perfection. It dominateseverything you can’t see from Champoluc: the Verra Plan, the Lago Blu (Blue Lake) and so on. Besides, it offers a privileged “balcony” on the Rosa massif, allowing the gaze to swape from the Breithorns to Polluce and Castore, until the Mount Rouge (3019 meters) which closes the visual on the right. First of all, where’s out aim?

The Palon is easibly distinguible from the valley floor, for his shape: it’s that mountain exactely overlooking Resy, green – coloured, lacking of woods and roundish – shaped on top. The path to choose is the 8C; the 8D, even if similar closer to the crossroad, takes to the the Resy Lakes, located at 2543 meters high. Varasc.it did this run, and here’s the chronicle: started from Morenesc resort, in Champoluc (the big car park at the end of the village) at 7:10 AM, I reached Frachey at 7:30 AM, then keeping straight to St. Jacques, where I arrived at 7:39AM.

From there it’s necessary, of course, to reach Resy: I went there at half past eight in the morning. It’s important to rember to put water in your flasks, because you won’t find it any more... From Resy it’s enought o keep on walking along the beautiful dirt road, which conducts eastward to Bettaforca Pass. Just a little after leaving Resy and Ferraro Refuge, at 8:50 AM, I reached the junction for 8C path: a big rock, painted with writings in red, works as a signal. My arrival to the peak happened at 10:05 AM, after crossing a little wood and some open meadows. It was really panoramic, but a little steep; following the path has been quite easy, thanks to the yellow signals painted on the rocks; just before the peak it’s important to pay attention at the junction, because if you choose the 8D you’ll end to the aforesaid Resy’s Lakes. By the time, I went back to Resy and by 12:35 I was at home, in time for lunch. Briefly, here’s a pretty excursion for all the family, dangerless and satisfying. Just only one note: after the Cross staying on the peak there’s a steep gorge, which can be dangerous. Take your children away from it, and allow them to run on the other side, which is grassy and totally safe.
